Originals: How Non-Conformists Move the World

Originals: How Non-Conformists Move the World

It’s an analysis of the origins of originality and how the society can nurture it.

Adam Grant- the author of Originals tells the stories of mostly familiar heroes with a zest in the book. Each chapter starts with a “hook,” and then builds suspense, and distills each story into a moral. The author keeps us engaged and make us feel like we’re learning something.

The most appealing chapter for me is “Fools Rush In” In the chapter, he challenges myth and reality with different examples, like youth and old, first born and later siblings, first movers and settlers. Particularly, when he claims originals might not have the traits we expect them to have. For example, originals are often procrastinators and put off delivering their final product till the last minute, to have more time for late developments. It challenges what it takes to succeed and start questioning the mythology of success. Well, I appreciate challenging the dogma in general
